Customer Review: “5/12/25: UPDATE: The pot works fine. One thing drives me to using bad words. I said this before, but it is an irritant. They attached the handle to the lid. Plastic lids are hard enough to use on glass jar. Having a handle in the way so that you have to remove your hand with each turn is frustrating. For someone new to what cold coffee brew represents, this is a good starter pot, or I frequently used pot. The instruction page presented a problem. Simple answer: go online and get detailed instructions on just how to make cold coffee. Now, the simple instructions manual is a fine reminder. Packaging handled the trip thru shipping very well. It is glass. It was double packed. There were many choices of cold brewing containers. Considering the cleaning process I go thru with my automatic tea pot, I opted for simple. Simple is very easy to clean with no over-engineered top to take apart to clean. Small enough for refrigerator or counter. The gaskets didn’t look sturdy to me, but after use and washing, I think they will be just fine. It’s hard for the plastic lid to screw on and off because of the handle, but I succeed. I use a standard tube sponge to clean the filter. Works better.”

Customer Review: “I don’t write a lot of reviews, but I felt like this product deserved one. This is an excellent cold brew maker. It is very easy to use and has a great 1,200 mL capacity. The plastic construction is more versatile (less fragile) than other brewers made from glass. The filtration system eliminates the sludge that other brew systems leave. The packaging is very thoughtful – a scoop and sponge are included. The scoop is easily overlooked, but it is the perfect size to clean the used grounds out of the filter. The sponge is an unexpectedly useful form factor to help with cleaning. Hopefully the sponges can be ordered separately, since sponges don’t last forever. Some minor downsides: Cleaning is moderately easy, but the only component that is recommended for the dishwasher is the pitcher (which is also easiest to clean by hand). All of the other elements are recommended for hand washing, which doesn’t take long. The way the filter is configured, the pitcher will work most effectively if stored (at least for part of the brew cycle) on its side. However, there is a vent in the lid that is prone to leaking when the pitcher is stored on its side. Brewing upright can lead to the top grounds not getting exposed to water. Unfortunately, one of the pieces broke during routine use after a couple of months: the pitcher lid is attached with a couple of hinges that snap the lid into place on the pitcher. One of the hinge attachments broke. I contacted customer service and a replacement pitcher arrived four days later. I’d recommend being careful with these hinge attachments as they seem prone to break. Customer Review: “I’ve tried making cold brew a couple different ways, most recently with Ball jars and a metal filter. This Maestri brewer does a better job than other methods I’ve tried. No coffee ground sludge in the bottom, easy to clean grounds out of the filter, and easy to pour liquid out of the pitcher without removing the filter / grounds. The brew is pretty strong and tastes great. I have found that sometimes air gets trapped in the pitcher when I’m filling it, and that can effect the brewing slightly. When this happens, the coffee grounds don’t seem to get fully saturated right away, so the brewing time takes longer. 24 hours of brew time seems to be the sweet spot for my taste preference, which is strong.”

I changed to a pour over coffee maker because I found that I was getting too many coffee grounds in the coffee and as I get older these don’t always agree with me. I drink coffee out of a mug and not a cup and if I want two mugs of coffee I need an 18 – 20 oz jug. This doesn’t seem to be a common size and so I was glad to find this Bean envy unit. The jug is borosilicate and will not break if near boiling water is put into it. The filter and filter carrier are stainless steel. The quality is good and the silicone pad on the bottom can be removed for dishwashing. For a given coffee bean and roast the coffee is smoother than it would be from my cafetiere. The filtering is effective but not perfect. A filter paper would be better but for the way I drink coffee the pour over filter works very well. I’m enjoying the coffee 😉 Is it perfect? Not quite. I wish I knew if I could put the filter assembly in the dishwasher. I always hand wash it but a zap in a dishwasher once in a while would be nice. The quality of the jug is very good. I just wish this was supplied with a “lid” so that I could keep the coffee in the pot warm so that the second mug is hot. Leaving the jug open cools the coffee too much. Putting the filter assembly back on is a bodge which works but I think I’m going to end up cutting a “cork” to size to supply a lid. In the end I have no real complaints. It’s good quality, makes good coffee and is easy to use and clean: highly recommended.”
